| Short Description | Let’s rally the Salesforce non-profit world to provide 24 hours of online presentations, from Mumbai to Modesto. |
| Why? | A modern conference is tragically caught in an unfortunate position: it's limited by physical space, which in turn limits the diversity and breadth of knowledge. This critical restriction over-represent those that can afford to attend and travel while under-representing those that might not have the means to attend but have the greatest opportunity to shape our world for the better. It's time to provide a bazaar of knowledge. Not a physical place, but a virtual gathering of all willing to share knowledge and gather knowledge, without the shackles of physical proximity and the cost associated with it. Knowledge was meant to be free and shared, and worldwide contributors of the Goat Farm Foundation community, can come together in 2018 to make it so. |
| How? | I’d recommend a very keep it simple approach. Here’s what we need to do to make this work. 1) pick a 24-hour period (duh)…maybe sometime in April 2018? 2) create a simple online spreadsheet for people to fill out times and topics, as well as ways to view their sessions 3) create a website and other marketing to tell the world about it 4) keep this as darn simple as possible, and push the effort to the individuals that want to contribute (i.e. create the central repository of information shared, market it, and get out of the way of the local contributors) 5) set some basic standards for the sessions, here’s my first shot at it • Give selflessly without any expectation of personal enrichment. • Distribute knowledge with the highest level of freedom and liberty that can be granted to it • Preserve knowledge shared in a manner that increases the likelihood of it spreading further • Share knowledge that will enhance the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations that use the Salesforce platform • Respect for the gift of time • Communicate in a form that reaches out to cultures under represented in our community • Provide localized collaboration opportunities • Come for the knowledge, stay for the community |
| Mission Alignment | This would fit well with the mission of finding and filling gaps in the non-profit tech ecosystem by bringing together the world’s most diverse voices (especially those underrepresented in typical tech conferences, spoken in their local non-English language). |
| About Submitter(s) | I’ve run open source and unconference events around the world for the past decade, with a focus on non-profit technology. I’ve never seen anything like this, especially in the Salesforce world, and it’s exactly the type of event I’d be passionate to help contribute to its success. |
| Next Steps | I’d really like to hear your thoughts on an event like this, and hope that I can find some other folks in the community that can pass this with a majority vote…and even help me with some of the basics above! Once we've discussed this a bit, if it seems like it can get enough steam, I'll ask for a vote in a new thread. |
